When we are engrossed in writing on an issue or topic, the mind focuses on the topic being written. The handwriting is then the function of the sub-conscious mind. Hence, analyzing the handwriting gives insight on the personality traits of the person, deep psychology and current state of mind. It is an observation on the current state of the person.
